The National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has said the next Mahama administration will establish a modern market for traders at Ashaiman in the Greater Accra region.
As one of the commercial hubs in the capital, Sammy Gyamfi says the area will benefit from a mini-market befitting of the status of the largest and best market in West Africa, the Kejetia Market in Kumasi.
The private legal practitioner, speaking at a mini rally at the market with the NDC caucus’ Whip in Parliament, Governs Kwame Agbodza, urged the gathering to look at Mahama’s record and vote for him to fulfill the promise for them.
He admonished the traders to trust the NDC’s presidential candidate whose track record in infrastructure abounds in various parts of the country to deliver on the promise for them.
“John Mahama says it is his priority to build a big market for you here at Ashaiman just as he built the Kejetia market in Kumasi, he will establish a mini size Kejetia market for you here,” he said Tuesday, November 26, 2024.
Sammy Gyamfi continued that unlike the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government which has collapsed numerous banks to make loan accessibility difficult for traders in Ghana, Mahama intends to establish the Women’s Development Bank which will offer loans to women at lower interest rates to expand their businesses.
He further assured that a branch of the bank will be put up at the market to make things easier for the traders who would want to access loans for their enterprises.
The Head of the NDC’s Communication Bureau also promised the gathering that the next NDC government, within the first 90 days in office, will abolish the obnoxious electronic transaction levy (e-levy) which has made businesses suffer since its introduction in 2021.
“Apart from the market, he will bring the Women Development Bank which will have a branch at the Ashaiman market. Also, within the first 90 days in office, he will abolish the e-levy to bring relief to us,” he added.
Ghana has just 10 days to its general elections to elect a President and 275 lawmakers, with 12 people contesting for the presidency. The two top candidates for the polls are the governing NPP’s Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is telling Ghanaians he has ‘Bold Solutions’ to solve the problems of the economy he is currently the Vice President of, and John Dramani Mahama of the NDC who says the country needs a reset, urging the citizenry to look at his records whilst in office and compare the economic indices then and now to make an informed decision.
