The Ashanti Regional Police Command has started an investigation into allegations that a Chief Inspector stationed within the region has been operating unauthorised wooden structures and renting them out to commercial sex workers at Asafo BB.
The investigation was announced in a press statement issued by the command on Friday, 10th July 2026, by the Public Affairs Unit of the Regional Police Headquarters in Kumasi.
The statement signed by the Head of the Public Affairs Unit, Supt Godwin Ahianyo, said the illegal wooden structures are reportedly located at Asafo BB, part of Asafo Market in Kumasi.
The Police Command stressed that it is treating the allegations with the utmost seriousness.
“The Command takes the allegations seriously and wishes to assure the public that further developments following the investigations will be communicated,” the statement read.
The statement comes after the Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi granted interview to a section of the media in the where he accused some security agencies of renting out unauthorised wooden structures to commercial sex workers.
The statement has since put fear and panic among some security personnel in the city of Kumasi.
