The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has foiled a planned robbery operation along the Antoakrom – Manso Nkwanta stretch.

This followed an intelligence picked by the police that a gang of armed robbers had lodged themselves in a bush along the stretch to attack communters.

The Police, upon acting on intelligence on Thursday, December 31, 2025, rushed to the scene where they encountered four armed suspects.

The suspects, upon sighting the police, opened fire and attempted to flee, which prompted the officers to return same.

In the course of the exchange, two of the suspects, identified as Usmaro Mohammed and Yaw Frimpong, also known as Nana Yaw, sustained gunshot injuries, while two others escaped into the bush.

A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition, one pump-action gun loaded with four BB cartridges, four spent cartridges, and a black bag containing 16 live cartridges.

Also, the Police impounded a Toyota Voxy vehicle believed to have been used by the suspects in their criminal activities.

Police suspect the gang to be behind several robbery incidents in Manso and Obuasi, including the Mpohor gold robbery, the Nyinahini highway robbery, and a cocoa shed robbery at Sefwi.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects operated with accomplices based in Mankranso, Tamale and Brekum, who are currently on the run.
