The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has commended the teachers and students engaged in the mural arts exhibition at the Asokwa Interchange in Kumasi.
He said, the initiative is significant because it introduces the students to a lucrative career path that guarantees them a secured future.
“Art is not a hobby. it is a viable career path that can help curb the unemployment that plagues our nation,” he said on April 2 at the Ashantifest currently underway in the capital of the Ashanti Region.
Mr Nketia therefore donated an amount of GHC50,000 to support the cultural showcase.
“This is my widow’s mite. An amount of GHC50,000 to support this laudable initiative,” he said.
As part of the Ashantifest students and teachers from local schools unveiled a mural created as part of the festival’s drive to transform the city’s interchanges into public art galleries.
The NDC’s National Chairman urged the young artists to pursue this passion to the highest level.
Launched by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, the main goal of Ashantifest is to beautify public spaces, provide training for students, generate employment, and foster community pride.

The Asokwa Interchange mural depicts Ashanti cultural symbols and contemporary images. symbolising the fusion of tradition and modernity.
Mr Nketia urged all, no matter their political affiliations, to support initiative.
“Whether you belong to the NPP. the NDC, or any other group. supporting the arts is supporting Ghana’s economic future,” he charged.
