Samuel Atta-Akyea is Chairman of the Committee set to probe plot against Dampare

The Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Samuel Atta-Akyea has been appointed as Chairman of a seven-member committee constituted by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, to probe an alleged tape meant to oust IGP Dampare.

The Committee also has human rights expert, Dr. Isaac Lartey Annang, who is also a lawyer as a member, to help probe contents of the audio which intends to get Dr. George Akuffo Dampare out as the Inspector General of Police to make way for the NPP to rig the 2024 elections.

Announcing the members of the committee in Parliament Tuesday, July 25, 2023, Speaker Bagbin said “the special committee will be chaired by Hon. Atta Akyea and with him from the Majority side are Hon. Yaw Boamah and Hon. Ophelia Mensah. And the Minority side, we have the Vice Chair, Hon. James Agalga, and with him are Hon. Eric Opoku and Hon. Peter Toobu.

“The technical person is a lawyer, a human rights expert in the name of Dr. Isaac Lartey Annang. He will be the serving person to anchor the investigations of the committee. The clerk will definitely be there to support the work of the committee.”

Aside from being tasked with investigating the authenticity of the leaked tape and the allegations contained therein, the committee’s mandate also includes making recommendations on how to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.

The Speaker of Parliament urged the committee to present its reportThe committee has up to September 10, 2023, to present its report according to instructions of the Speaker.
