President John Dramani Mahama has announced that B5 Plus Group will be among the first companies to register under the government’s 24-hour economy initiative, describing the move as part of a broader push toward value-added industrialisation.

Speaking at the commissioning of the B5 Plus Limited Steel Manufacturing Plant in Prampram on February 20, 2026, the President said “continuous operations in steel production are essential to improving efficiency and reducing energy waste”

The President revealed that, “B5 Plus Group is set to become one of the first companies to register under the government’s 24-hour economy initiative.”

According to him, “steel manufacturing benefits significantly from round-the-clock operations, which help reduce furnace downtime, minimise energy wastage, and enhance overall productivity.”

President Mahama also noted that the Phase Two expansion of B5 Plus is not an isolated investment but part of a broader structural transformation of the Ghanaian economy shifting from reliance on raw material exports to value-added industrial production.

He stressed that,” the 2026 Budget makes concrete provisions to operationalise the 24-hour economy programme, demonstrating government’s commitment to industrial growth.”

The President explained that when factories operate three shifts instead of one, employment opportunities increase, productivity improves, and export capacity expands.

He also emphasized that,” ongoing fiscal reforms are aimed at creating a supportive environment for industry and business growth, positioning manufacturing as a key driver of economic transformation.”
