Survey house, Global InfoAnalytics, has disclosed through its latest poll that Ghanaians now support the declaration of the four vacant seats in Parliament by the Speaker.
“On the decision of the Speaker of Parliament to declare four seats as vacant, the poll now shows 42% of voters backed the Speaker, 36% oppose it and 22% have no opinion,” portions of the latest survey disclosed.
Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, on October 17, 2024, ruled based on Article 97(g)(h) to declare some four seats in the House vacant.
This was because the occupants of those seats have switched camps to contest as either independent or with a different political party in the next election.
The ruling, has since created controversy, especially after the Supreme Court ruled to stay proceedings of the Speaker.
Speaking with Captain Smart on Onua FM’s current affairs show, ‘Asɛm Bɛn Ni?’, premiered Monday, November 04, 2024, Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Musah Dankwah, indicated that, although the survey was generally about who wins the upcoming December elections, they usually include a national trending issue if worth it.
According to him, the weekly poll also featured the same question about whether Ghanaians were in support of the Speaker’s ruling in the previous week’s edition, the results, as obtained, had more Ghanaians kicking against it than those who supported.
However, the outcome of the latest edition stated otherwise, indicating majority of Ghanaians are now in support of what Bagbin did.
“As pollsters, we always include in our surveys, a trending national issue to seek the opinion of the public if it is worth it. In the previous week, 39 per cent said they support Bagbin, with 40 per cent opposing him, whilst 29 per cent said they had no opinion.
“But this time around, 42 per cent said they support Bagbin, 36 per cent said they oppose him with 22 saying they had no opinion. So you can see that Bagbin now has support of Ghanaians if you look at the poll,” explained Musah Dankwah.
