Convenor of DemocracyHub, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has apologised to the Appointments Committee of Parliament for his allegation of bribery against its members.
The apology was made through his counsel, Nana Ato Dadzie, when he was summoned before the Committee to substantiate his allegations against the Committee’s members.
On the two charges which Barker-Vormawor was hauled to respond to, he admitted to one and denied knowledge of the other.
The post which Barker-Vormawor admitted to, as posted on his Facebook and X states; “So all the monies the ministerial appointees are being asked to pay to the Appointments Committee just to get approved, are those ones not affected by ORAL? Strange Republic.”
While admitting to have posted the comment, considered by the committee to be offensive, his lawyer said his intention for the post had been misconstrued.
In his statement before the Committee, Nana Ato Dadzie said; “Mr. Chairman… We apologise, first of all, for what we posted, which we said was intended for something else.”
The former Chief of Staff under former President Rawlings explained further that such deeds as authored and posted by his client might have been acts stemming from persons other than those on the Appointments Committee.
“The point of that statement is that, it was not directed at the Appointments Committee in any way. But only intended to expose certain matters and materials that had come to his notice, allegedly that some people are apparently on the back of the Appointments Committee, doing other acts which may not enhance….,” he stated.
