Dr. Kobina Arthur Kennedy, a founding member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has said Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s attempts to dissociate himself from the failures of the Akufo-Addo administration has been abortive.
He says the Vice President and flag bearer of the governing New Patriotic Party should accept that he is part of the problems Ghana is currently facing, rather than making attempts to absolve himself of administration’s failures.
According to him, Bawumia is behaving like the proverbial insect which muddies the water from one end of a river and turns around to question why it is unclean at the other end.
Tagging himself as the “most consequential Vice President” in Ghana’s history, Dr. Kennedy says it is unfortunate for him to deny knowledge of the policies that have become a problem for the country.
Speaking on TV3’s KeyPoints Saturday, November 30, 2024, he said Bawumia has failed in his attempt to say he knows nothing about the woes of this administration.
“It has not been effectively and honestly done. You cannot muddy the water from upstream and come downstream to complain that the water is dirty. You cannot be acknowledged and acclaimed and celebrated as the most consequential Vice President in our history and then come down and say you do not know anything about the policies,” he stated.
With less than a week to Ghana’s general elections, Dr. Kennedy advised Ghanaians to make a decision that would be reflective of the kind of leadership the NPP has given Ghanaians through Akufo-Addo and Bawumia.
He reemphasised the need to prioritise institutional leadership to give Ghana the progress it deserves. He said the call is not limited to only the executive arm of government but parliament and the judiciary inclusive, adding that civil society also has a key role to play.
“Parliamentary leadership, judicial independence, and accountability within the executive branch are all critical. Institutions like the Electoral Commission must ensure clean elections, and security services must protect lives, particularly during electoral periods,” he added.
