Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has said that Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has not been able to convince him with his address last Wednesday.
Kpebu says the more he hears Bawumia speak, the more he realizes that the country is in the hands of ‘tyrants’.
Asked whether he was convinced by the address of Dr Bawumia to vote for him (Bawumia), while speaking on the Key Points on TV3 Saturday February 10, Kpebu said “Absolutely no, not even the least, the more I hear Bawumia speak the more I see the country in the hands of tyrants.
“After assisting Akufo-Addo in gargantuan corruption, he has the effrontery of saying he wants to become president.
“You led us into a deep hole, without apologizing you say you want to be president. He should have started with an apology for looting us, then perhaps we will listen and say humans change.”
For his part, Akbar Yussif Rohullah Khomeini, an aide to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, recounted that when the Vice President was elected as flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on November 4, 2023, he assured the entire country that he would be his own man with his vision.
To that end, he said Dr Bawumia shared his own vision in his address at the University of Professional Studies, Accra, (UPSA) on Wednesday, February 7 2024.
“In the speech after his election, he declared that he was his own man, and he had his vision….so therefore Ghanaians demanded to know the details of his vision. what he did was to clearly state what the vision is,” he said on the Key Points on TV3 Saturday February 10.
He further stated Dr Bawumia has engaged the entire country in a discourse of ideas capable of transforming the country.
In his view, the conversation should be based on ideas to grow the country and that is what Dr Bawumia has been doing over the years.
Dr Bawumia had stated categorically that he would abolish the tax on electronic financial transactions, e-levy, if elected President of Ghana.
The controversial tax was introduced in 2022, and prior to the introduction, Vice President Bawumia had declared his opposition to levies on electronic financial transactions in an interview.
Delivering his first major address to the nation after his election as NPP flagbearer, during which he gave broad policy outlines of a Bawumia Presidency, Dr. Bawumia minced no words in declaring his opposition to taxes on electronic financial transactions, declaring that he will abolish e-levy as President.
“To move towards a cashless economy, however, we have to encourage the population to use electronic channels payment.
“To accomplish this, there will be no taxes on digital payments under my administration. The e-levy will therefore, be abolished,” he declared at the UPSA auditorium on February 7.
Akbar Yussif Rohullah Khomeini said “he has gotten the whole country to engage in discourse bordering on ideas capable of transforming our nations, the conversation should be based on ideas and that is how he has done over the years.
