George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South, has described the New Patriotic Party’s 2024 presidential candidate as a “theoretical economist.”
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is also the Vice President and Head of the Akufo-Addo administration’s Economic Management Team, according to Ricketts-Hagan, could only explain graphs and theories in economics but lacks the wherewithal to put them to practicality.
According to him, it is because Bawumia could not match his theories with deeds that led to his abysmal performance in the Saturday, December 07, 2024 presidential elections.
The Former Deputy Finance Minister, speaking in an interview with Onua News following his victory in the just ended elections, indicated that, in as much as he knew the Vice President was not going to succeed in his bid to become President, he did not wish him well either.
Bawumia, in Mr. Ricketts-Hagan’s analysis, lacks the capacity to serve as President since his utterances could be attributed to every other person that has once studied economics with nothing extraordinary to offer in the field.
“We know the efforts that goes in at that level but I did not wish him to succeed and I knew he would not succeed. Also, I knew he didn’t have the capacity to do the job.
“He talked good economics which we can all speak to but if Economics is all about data and presentation, then everyone who has studied economics will be a great economist. The practicality of it [is the real deal].
“It is not only economics but there are so many people who are good at theory in many subjects but when it comes to practice, they can’t put into practice. One of them is Bawumia,” he stated.
It is for this reason that the Cape Coast South lawmaker says he has described the former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana as lacking the prowess to implement economic theories in reality.
“So, I have said in many of the interviews I’ve done that, as an economist, Bawumia is a theoretical economist, he is not a practical one. I see it from all the things he does,” he added.
