braham Amaliba, the Director of Conflict Resolution for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has said the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has no solutions to the mess it has created.
Voting for the NPP in the December elections, according to the private legal practitioner, is an endorsement of continuous suffering until the next elections.
According to Amaliba, the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration’s performance so abysmal to the extent that all credible rating agencies across the globe have downgraded the country into a junk status.
He says the signs, which are so clear for the visible of the blind, should tell Ghanaians whom not to vote for, as long as the December 07 election is concerned.
He slammed the Vice President and flag bearer of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for his double standard on the Electronic Transaction bill popularly known as ‘e-levy’.
He says the Vice President, as Head of the Economic Management Team of the State, was neck-deep in the drafting of the e-levy, but has turned around to tell Ghanaians he didn’t support it.
Apart from Bawumia’s insistence that he was against the e-levy and still superintended its draft, Amaliba thinks he is not trustworthy to tell Ghanaians he will scrap the levy.
“They have no remedy for this country. The continuation of this administration is a clear indication that we are going to continue to suffer,” he said on the BigIssue on TV3’s NewDay Friday, November 01, 2024.
He questioned the NPP’s logic that they have turned the corner after taking Ghana into ditch, whilst using covid-19 as an excuse.
“Aren’t we suffering now? The rating agencies, haven’t they downgraded this economy to junk status?” he quizzed.
“With this e-levy thing, we were told by senior members of this party–Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, John Boadu –that Dr. Bawumia was neck-deep in the formulation of this e-levy,” he stated.
Amaliba went ahead to question how he can turn around to scrap it.
“Bawumia crafted the e-levy with his Economic Management Team, how can the same person turn around 360 degrees and say that I’ll cancel it? Ghanaians cannot believe such a person and will not believe such a person.
“If you don’t want mosquitoes, when you see it in my house, kill it. Don’t be killing mosquitoes in your own house. Where you see mosquitoes, kill it,” he stated.
The discussion was centred on the latest Afrobarometer survey which says 82 per cent of Ghanaians say the economy is heading in the wrong direction, with some 80 per cent also saying they want the e-levy to be scrapped.
