Middle Belt Campaign Coordinator for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Ayew Afriyie says he finds it weird that critics of the former Vice President are reluctant to acknowledge the successes he chalked.

He described such acts as hypocritical and unfair to the 2028 NPP flagbearer aspirant.

“What is even troubling is that our own people are leading the onslaught. If we the NPP admits that somehow, we disappointed Ghanaians then we must as well collectively, accept the blame and apologise to Ghanaians with the former president leading” the Effiduase-Asokore lawmaker said in an interview on a Kumasi- based radio station monitored by this portal.

The former Chairman of the Health Committee of Parliament said Dr Bawumia has been at the receiving end by his opponents because he is the most probable candidate to win next year’s NPP presidential primary slated for January 31, 2026.

According to Dr. Ayew, the 2024 flagbearer of the major opposition party was the brain behind most of the executed social intervention policies which gave the Akufo-Addo-led administration high ratings.

“Those attacking Bawumia honestly know his influence in the execution of some of the former government’s social intervention policies which became popular.”

“It has been said, and it is no secret anymore that some decisions Dr Bawumia deemed unpopular and will have repercussion on the government and the NPP, he advised against, but they were not taken; what could he have done as a vice president?” He quizzed.

According to Dr Ayew, Dr Bawumia became the poster boy in the lead up to the 2016 electoral victory.

“The party people will never forget how he dedicated himself to the extent of sacrificing his job to ensure the NPP came to power. Was he not the same person who became the torn in the flesh of then ruling NDC; they could not contain him. He was the hero then; what has happened, and I am asking his critics,” he noted.

Dr Ayew said Dr Bawumia remains focused with his decent campaign and will continue to incorporate the expectations of the party in achieving the ultimate to build a better country for all.
