The traditional authority of Senase, a suburb of Berekum in the Berekum East municipality of the Bono region, has poured libation to invoke the powers of the river gods to help expose the perpetrators behind recent killings in the area.
Three persons engaged in the commercial motorcycle business, popularly known as ‘okada’, have been killed by unknown persons in the area, sparking fear among residents and riders.
The most recent incident is the killing of a 23-year-old, Bernard Kyere. After a week with no trace of the perpetrators, the traditional authority says the development is becoming disturbing and has taken steps to supplement the police’s efforts to help address the issue.
The Queen Mother of Senase, a suburb of Sofokyere, Nana Agyeiwaa Dufie III, directed her linguist, Nana Tua, to pour libation to invoke the spirit of the gods to help bring the culprits to book.
Speaking with Onua News’ Richard Manu after the slaughtering of the sheep and prayers to the gods, Okyeame Tua explained that it was necessary for the leadership to intervene following the three killings with no trace of those behind them.
“The chiefs have realised that if we don’t anything about this, things might get out of hand. When the first incident occurred, we thought it was going to happen again. But there was a second and a third. So Nana Agyeiwaa Dufie III took the lead and purchased all the items for us to perform this rites.”
He further indicated that they will back the police with their prayers to help make their work easier, stressing their trust in the gods to aid the police in bringing the perpetrators to book.
“We’ll support the police with prayers after carrying out this ritual so that whoever knows something and not willing to speak will speak by the doing of the gods to make the work of the police easier,” he indicated.
