Ghana Premier League champions Bibiani Goldstars SC opened their pre-season campaign on a flying note after they beat Asante Kotoko 2-1 in the 2025 Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) Top 4 tournament.
It was the inaugural game of the domestic pre-season tournament, staged at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Wednesday.
The 2024/25 MTN FA Cup champions drew first blood in the first half after striker Albert Amoah capitalised on a defensive error to beat Emmanuel Kobi in post for the Miners.
A few minutes later, however, Asante Kotoko captain and defender Samba O’Neil conceded a foul in his penalty area, forcing the referee to point to the spot.
Samuel Atta Kumi stepped up to beat goalkeeper Mohamed Camara for the equaliser.
The two sides, as a result, went into the break one goal apiece.
In the second half, an own goal conceded by the Porcupine Warriors gave the Miners the winner as they head into Friday’s game with all three points.
Stephen Frimpong Manso’s side will take on Hearts of Oak on Friday before facing off with Heart of Lions in their final game on Sunday.
Asante Kotoko will play Lions in their next game before wrapping up with archrivals Hearts of Oak on Sunday.
