The Black Queens booked their ticket to the semi-finals of the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after beating Algeria 4-2 on penalties after extra time in the quarter-finals on Saturday, July 19.

The match at the Stade Municipal de Berkane had ended goalless in full regulation time and the additional 30 minutes played.

A superb first-half strike by Stella Nyamekye was later ruled out by the video assistant referee (VAR), putting the Fennecs back in the game.

Begging chances that came the way of both sides were wasted as the match went to shootouts after 120 minutes of play.

Ghana goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan Findiib rose to the occasion as she saved two of the kicks by the Algerians to hand over the victory kick to Evelyn Badu.

And the former Hasaacas Ladies forward made no mistakes as she buried the ball at the back of the net to secure the semi-final slot for the Queens.

They will face hosts Morocco on Tuesday, July 22 for a place in the final of the tournament.

In the other quarter-final match played on Saturday, defending champions South Africa beat Senegal 4-1 on penalties after  a goalless game to set up a mouth-watering semi-final clash against the Super Falcons of Nigeria.
