Black Stars captain Andre Dede Ayew has been left out of the squad to face Mali and the Central African Republic (CAR) in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Dede was not among the list of injured players named by the Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, ahead of the announcement by Coach Otto Addo.

He was also conspicuously missing in the 26-man squad announced by Coach Addo, who returns at the helm after almost two years.

Responding to a question about the seeming ‘mishap’, the former Dortmund scout coach said he had a conversation with the captain before the decision.

He told the press in Accra on Wednesday, May 29 that it was a very difficult decision to take.

Andre’s brother, Jordan, is, however, in the squad.
