The Black Stars left Accra Sunday for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) second leg against Sudan.
The North Africans secured a vital point in Accra last Thursday when they held the four-time champions to a goalless draw.
It was a frustrating game for the Black Stars as they are yet to pick a win in the qualifiers so far.
Playing in front of the Accra fans for the first time in almost four years, the Stars failed to convert the many chances that came their way with the day’s captain, Mohammed Kudus, failing to even score a sitter.
Angola took advantage of the slip-up by the two sides to extend their lead and move closer to qualification as they beat Niger 2-0 in the other Group F game.
The return leg between Ghana and Sudan has gained capital for the two sides.
While it has become a must-win encounter for the Black Stars, the Falcons of Jediane are also poised to cement their position as the second-placed side.
“Ghana versus Sudan was difficult but we managed to fight and had a draw,” Sudan coach James Kwesi Appiah, who captained the Black Stars and coached the team in the past, said ahead of the game.
”We are now going to play the return leg in Benghazi [Libya]. It is not going to be easy but Insha Allah, we are going to fight and make sure we get a victory for Sudan.”
Ghana coach Otto Addo told journalists in the post-match press conference last Thursday that his charges will find the scalp of “lucky” Sudan.
“Sudan were very lucky today,” he said on Thursday.
“In the next game, they won’t be lucky.”
The game is scheduled for the Martyrs of February Stadium in Benghazi, Libya.
