Burkina Faso could have been the third team at this year’s Africa Cup of Nations to book a place in the knock-out round but for an injury-time header by Baghdad Bounedjah.

It was the second equaliser for the Al Sadd striker in the Group D game on Saturday, January 20, earning him the Man of the Match Award.

Burkina Faso would have joined Cape Verde and Senegal into the Round of 16.

The Stallions had opened the score on the stroke of half-time through Mohamed Konate. His timely run into the penalty area of the Desert Foxes was initially ruled offside until the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) gave the goal.

After the break, Bounedjah capitalised on a free kick to score his second goal of the tournament.

The 2013 Silver winners went ahead again after Bertrand Traore scored from the spot.

But the fighting spirit of the Algerians paid off when the Qatar-based striker jumped highest to connect to a corner kick in injury time.

He earned his side’s second draw of the tournament, having drawn 1-1 with Angola in their opening game.

The two-time champions will take on Mauritania in their final group game while the Burkinabes play Angola in their final group game.
