Member of Parliament-elect for Efia Constituency in the Western Region, Lawyer Yaw Boamah Nyarko has called on the 2024 Parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abdul-Majeed Iddrisu Nassam Dokurugu to call his supporters to order.
Speaking in an interview with Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson, the host of Connect FM’s Omanbapa Morning Show, spokesperson for the Member of Parliament elect, Kwaku Sagoe indicated that the NDC candidate is walking around making his followers believe he won the election, a situation which is far different from results declared by the Electoral Commission.
“He refused to sign the pink sheet saying there were some irregularities which he has since been unable to prove. The result was counted, and he lost, the difference was over one thousand votes, but he is still walking around claiming victory”, Mr Sagoe indicated on December 12.
“MP-elect for Efia, Lawyer Yaw Boamah Nyarko has called on his supporters to exercise restraint in the face of the recent provocation from the supporters of Majeed. We want him to restrain his supporters, the returning officer declared Boamah as the winner and not Majeed”, he indicated while speaking on behalf of Lawyer Yaw Boamah Nyarko.
For the past two days, some alleged members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Efia Constituency of the Western Region have been demonstrating at the Takoradi office of the Electoral Commission.
They initially broke into the glass door of the Commission’s office. It took the intervention of the police to ensure calm. They returned the following day causing more harm. They blocked the main road burning tyres while shouting ‘No Majeed, no peace’.
Lawyer Yaw Boamah Nyarko of the New Patriotic Party had 15, 870 votes while Abdul-Majeed Iddrisu Nassam Dokurugu of the National Democratic Congress garnered 13, 892.
The NDC candidate has contested the parliamentary result citing irregularities in collation. He has since refused to sign the pink sheet.
The Electoral Commission has, however, declared the NPP candidate as the winner.
