The security task force of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Cape Coast has stormed the Metro Mass Transit (MMT) depot, halting the authorities’ attempts to sell obsolete buses to a scrap dealer.
The scrap dealer, under management’s supervision, has been vandalizing and dismantling abandoned buses at the Cape Coast depot of Metro Mass.
More than ten buses at the depot have been left to deteriorate due to mechanical problems and a lack of maintenance as the time the task force visited on Monday, January 13, 2025.
In an interview with the media, Roland Acquah, a member of the party’s security task force at the depot, expressed concerns over the ongoing situation.

He emphasized their primary mission, stating, “we are here to safeguard government property and ensure that the metro mass transit management does not unlawfully sell off old buses to scrap dealers.”
Acquah highlighted the task force’s actions, noting that they had effectively prevented the sale of 10 buses that were on the verge of being sold as scrap metal.
He insisted, “we cannot allow the management to sell off old vehicles for a paltry sum.” Acquah further revealed that some buses were reportedly being sold to scrap dealers for as low as GHC1,000 each, which prompted the task force to take immediate action and storm the depot to halt any such transaction processes.
The task force team drove away a truck from the depot of Cape Coast Metro Mass Transit, belonging to a scrap dealer.

The Head of the Cape Coast Security Task-force for the NDC party, Salifu Issaka, disclosed that they have been to several government offices to ensure outgoing appointees do not loot state properties along.
Among the places they had visited earlier included the “the Regional Coordinating Council, Cape Coast Metro Assembly, and we are here at Metro Mass Transit to ensure that outgoing appointees do not take government property to their homes.”
Police personnel were brought from the Central Regional Police Command in Cape Coast to restore calm, and the task force exercise did not disturb those traveling.
