Captain Smart has disclosed tagging a president for being involved in galamsey is not peculiar to Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration.

The journalist says he once told ex President Kufuor that he is “seriously involved in galamsey” when an appointee of his was destroying forest reserves and polluting water bodies in Manso Adubia and its environs.

According to Captain Smart, John Agyekum Kufuor ordered then National Security minister, Francis Poku, to arrest the person involved.

He, however, said he is surprised President Akufo-Addo is not taking any action against Wontumi but rather targeting journalists saying it.

“I told Kufuor he is seriously involved in galamsey. His own was ‘seriously involved’ and when I was telling Kufuor, Madam Chinery-Hesse was there. I said Alhaji Salia is around Manso Adubia and its enclave doing galamsey and he walks with you so you’re condoning his act.

“So when we got there [Alhaji Salia’s area], Alhaji Salia came and someone told Kufuor that is Alhaji Salia. Kufuor called him and asked why he is destroying forests and polluting water bodies. You know I walk with you so because of what you’re doing, they say I am also doing galamsey. You don’t have to do that.

“Right after that Kufuor signalled National Security Coordinator, Francis Poku to arrest him and he was arrested,” he narrated.
