Chiefs and traditional leaders in the Western North Region have called on the government to prioritize the creation of sustainable employment opportunities for the youth.

The appeal follows a two-day thank-you tour by the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, to the region.

According to the traditional authorities, the growing rate of youth unemployment poses a serious threat to social stability and long-term development in the region.

They stressed that many young people are willing and able to work but lack access to stable and decent job opportunities.

The chiefs noted that sustainable employment, particularly in agriculture, agro-processing, and small-scale industries, would help reduce poverty and discourage rural-urban migration.

They further urged government to collaborate with traditional leadership, the private sector, and local authorities to implement development initiatives that can generate lasting jobs for the youth.

The traditional leaders made the call during interactions with political leaders and community members as part of activities surrounding the thank-you tour.
