The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the immediate dismissal of Black Stars coach Chris Hughton.

The decision was taken after the failure of the senior national men’s soccer team to progress to the knock-out stage of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in La Côte d’Ivoire.

The Association also announced the dissolution of the technical team of the Black Stars.

“The Ghana Football Association will in the coming days provide a roadmap on the future direction of the Black Stars,” a statement by the GFA on Tuesday night said.

The decision of the Executive Council of the country’s football governing body followed that of 2022, when Ghana exited Cameroon 2021 at the group stage.

Serbian Milovan Rajevac guided the Black Stars to its most disastrous campaign in the Cup of Nations.

He was replaced by Otto Addo.

The team failed to win a single match in La Côte d’Ivoire, just like in Cameroon, but managed two draws – against record champions Egypt and Mozambique – which was better than the previous performance. Ghana lost to Morocco and lowly-ranked Comoros Islands.

All await the next decision of the GFA as the Black Stars will be back in action in June for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
