In the hopes that Asante Kotoko coach Dr Prosper Nartey Ogum can turn things around, one of his predecessors, CK Akonnor, who was also a Black Star coach at a point, has urged supporters of the Porcupine Warriors to have patience.
Asante Kotoko are going through a difficult moment yet to win in five outings.
In their last five Ghana Premier League games, they lost four and drawn one.
Although CK Akonnor believes coach Ogum has the history to get through the current challenges, he still wants the players to improve their performance.
“I beg the fans to exercise patience as Ogum has proven himself time and time again and we have faith in him to make things right,” Akonnor told Akoma FM in an interview.
“Since the players are the primary actors in football, they must assist the coach but since the coach is constantly criticized, I asked the players to pay close attention to what the coach asks of them and improve their performance in order for them to get out of the situation.”
CK Akonnor uses EPL managers as examples to highlight the value of having patience with a coach.
“We can all attest that teams that practice patience with their coach perform exceptionally well; Arsenal, with Arteta and Jurgen Klopp, is a prime example of this. Perhaps, Ogum has more to accomplish and a year is insufficient. Even though Kotoko is a large club with high expectations, sometimes patience and time is what the need.”
The next league game for Asante Kotoko is scheduled for Thursday night at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium against Nsoatreman FC.
