Commercial drivers in the Mpohor municipality are calling on the government to construct a modern bus terminal, describing the current facility as deplorable and unfit for purpose.

The absence of a proper terminal, they say, is making life difficult for both drivers and commuters who rely on daily transport to destinations such as Takoradi, Manso, Agona Nkwanta, and Kajebri.

The current terminal lacks basic infrastructure and becomes virtually unusable during rainfall, often getting flooded and muddy conditions that disrupt transportation services and pose safety concerns.

“Whenever it rains, the place turns into a mess. Drivers struggle to operate and passengers are left stranded. Drivers pay park ticket everyday and they are always complaining about essence of paying the ticket when they don’t operate in a befitting the question they always ask is What the proceeds of the park ticket used for?,” Nicholas Mensah, Station Master bemoans.

In addition, drivers say the limited space at the terminal leads to severe congestion, particularly on market days, creating operational challenges.

Ebo Hackman, a driver lamented on the situation, saying: “Market days are the worst. The space is too small for the number of vehicles. It becomes chaotic, sometimes we have to park our car along the road side and some person take advantage of the situation to steal from our cars which is unfortunate.”

Despite these challenges, the drivers have acknowledged some progress. They commended the government for the return of contractors working on the Mpohor–Kajebri and Adum Banso–Benso road projects.

However, they are calling for faster execution to ease movement and improve transportation in the area.
