An Achimota District Court has convicted and sentenced 16 persons belonging to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) accused of invading the premises of UTV studios in Accra with a fine.

The accused persons, on Saturday, October 7, 2023, during a live telecast of United Showbiz, an entertainment programme on the channel, stormed the studio and disrupted the programme.

They threatened the host and her guests over what they described as contents that were detrimental to the government and the NPP.

The management of UTV and the Ministry of Information reported the incident to the police.

The suspects were then arrested and subsequently charged for being on the premises for unlawful purpose and arraigned today, Monday, October 16, 2023.

The accused persons pleaded guilty to the charges against them and were, therefore, convicted on their own pleas and sentenced to a fine of 200 penalty units each which amounts to Two Thousand Four Hundred Ghana Cedis (GH 2,400.00), in default 3 months imprisonment.

They have also been ordered by the court to sign a bond to be of good behaviour in default 6 months imprisonment.
