The government of Latvia has officially responded to the Ghana government’s request for engagement into the death of young Ghanaian student, Nana Agyei Ahyia.

Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced that the Latvian government has expressed its readiness to receive the delegation sent by the Ghanaian government, set to arrive in Riga on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

In a Facebook post made by the Minister on Saturday, December 27, 2025, Mr. Ablakwa noted that the upcoming visit signifies a critical step toward uncovering the truth surrounding the death of the student and securing justice for his family.

“On the matter of ongoing investigations and justice for Nana Agyei, I can confirm that the Latvian Foreign Ministry has officially responded to my request and indicated that Latvian authorities shall be ready to receive my delegation in Riga, Latvia, on the 20th of January, 2026,” Ablakwa stated.

The Minister assured in his post that he will always update the public on developments throughout the process, stressing on the relevance of openness and accountability regarding the matter.

“I promised regular updates in the interest of transparency, accountability and justice — I shall continue to do just that,” he added.

Reiterating the government’s commitment to Ghanaian citizens abroad, the minister said the Mahama administration remains resolute in safeguarding the dignity of all Ghanaians. “The Mahama administration values every Ghanaian life, either at home or abroad; we are prepared to do whatever it takes to safeguard the dignity of all Ghanaians,” he affirmed.
