A Special Aide to Ghana’s Founder and first president, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Osomfopa Dr. Robert Kobina Taylor, has disclosed that the name Ghana is an abbreviation.

Prior to arriving at the name when Ghana was called Gold Coast, the centenarian has disclosed the major tribes that were in the Gold Coast then were combined to form the new name.

Speaking on Onua TV/FM’s Maakye with Captain Smart Tuesday, October 11, 2022, Dr. Taylor said the Gold Coast predominantly comprised the Akans, Guans, Accra/Alata, the Nzema/Northern territory and the Hausas.

The tribes were arranged to become Ghana.
G = Guan
H = Hausa
A = Accra/Alata
N = Nzema and Northern territory
A = Akan

The name replaced the Gold Coast after independence.
