Confusion in the Convention People’s Party (CPP) seems to have stepped up a notch higher since, the abrupt resignation of some leading national executives on Tuesday, December 5, 2023.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, some members of the party’s National Executive Council and Central Committee described the resolution to dissolve the national executive council as unconstitutional.

Mathew Kwasi Obeng Boadu, a former Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the party, who spoke to the media in Kumasi described turn of events in the party as an eyesore and a disgrace.

The CPP appears to be in disarray after some members of the national executives of the party resigned on Tuesday.

General Secretary, Nana Yaa Jantuah, the Youth Organiser and other notable persons have stepped down from their positions.

The decision comes in the wake of a petition presented during the National Executive Council ( NEC) meeting in Kumasi on Tuesday.

Members of the party across all parts of the country petitioned the NEC to compel all National executives of the party to either voluntarily resign or be removed over their alleged incompetence.

Mr. Obeng Boadu speaking with the media, dissociated himself and some members from the action.

He said what happened to the party is an indictment on the CPP.

“Our attention has been drawn to a press release by Kwame Nkrumah Botsio (Secretary, CPP Interim Council) to the effect that the National Executives have been removed by the National Executive Council (NEC) and that an Interim Council has been appointed to take over the affairs of the party.

“As comrades of the party and elders witnessed all that happened at the said NEC meeting and wish to inform all members and sympathisers of the party that the said NEC meeting which was supposed to have nullified the position of National Officers was carried out without due process as per Article 82 of the party’s constitution and therefore null and void.

“The voluntary resignation of some national officers at the NEC meeting is purely personal decisions and is therefore valid as such,” he said.

He called on all party members and sympathisers to ignore the said press release, saying that the appointment of an Interim Council is purely the responsibility of the Council of Elders.
