“When EOCO says they are investigating you for a car, do you know the other things under the sleeves of the investigators? For all you know, the Lamborghini is just their first lead.”
These were the words of Security and Fraud Consultant, Richard Kumadoe, as he advised dancehall artiste Shatta Wale to tread cautiously in the wake of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO)’s probe into the tax obligations of his yellow Lamborghini.
Mr. Kumadoe has noted that the artiste should have, since the wake of this investigation, allowed his lawyers to front the issue and create the needed legal leverage for him rather than resorting to frequent social media outbursts claiming he has all the necessary documents to prove ownership of the luxury car.
According to the Consultant, once a person comes under crime investigation notice, there are clear steps to follow.
“Number one, don’t dictate to investigators. Number two, don’t display awkward behaviour. Number three, keep your mouth shut, otherwise, you expose yourself and operate from a position of weakness,” he cautioned on Yen Nsempa, on Onua FM Thursday, August 21, 2025.
He added that EOCO’s investigations might extend beyond the Lamborghini, hence the need for restraint and professional legal representation.
The consultant revealed that he had earlier advised the musician on Onua TV and TV3 to seek proper legal representation but said his counsel was ignored.
He further dismissed public criticisms that EOCO should focus on national issues like illegal mining (galamsey) instead of probing the artiste.
“It’s absolute nonsense to ask why EOCO is investigating Shatta Wale when there are other issues. Do you determine for investigators when they should do their work? That’s the mistake many people are making,” Mr. Kumadoe stressed.
He further urged the media to help educate the public on the independence of investigative bodies and not fuel misconceptions.
“You my brothers and sisters in the media space need to advise the people and educate them.”
His comments follow EOCO’s latest invite of Shatta Wale, where he was detained amid controversy surrounding the purchase of a Lamborghini with proceeds from alleged fraudulent activities.
