The paramount chief of Asebu Traditional Area in the Central region, Okatakyie Amanfi VII, has asked political parties to grant the Electoral Commission (EC) the independence it requires to fulfill its mandate.
The chief says the constant criticism of the Commission breeds tension which does not auger well for the nation as the December polls beckons.
According to the chief, although he is not pointing fingers at any political party, he believes the Electoral Commission deserves the space to fulfill its duty since it knows what it is up to.
The paramount chief who is also a Professor and lectures at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) made the comments at the visit of the running mate to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, at his palace Friday, September 07, 2024.
“When we constantly criticize the EC, it creates unnecessary pressure. We should let them do their job because they know what they’re doing. I’m not pointing fingers at any political party, but we must all give them the space to fulfill their responsibilities effectively, ”he added.
Meanwhile, the chief has asked Ghanaians to give Bawumia and NAPO the opportunity to lead Ghana since their ticket is a perfect one to better the lives of Ghanaians.
“We pray that God protects them and their work, granting them peace. In the remaining three months before the election, we hope for good news, and I believe it will happen.
“As for Napo, he has done a lot for Ghana, and now that he is the Vice President, we pray he will fully support Dr Bawumia in this election. Their efforts will help Ghana stay strong.
“Looking at what they have done for the country, shows they are capable of helping even more.
“We thank God for bringing them together, and I believe, in the end, people will see the good work they have done for the country,” he said. “The entire NPP government should support these two so they can accomplish even more,” he stated.
