Dr Serebour Quaicoe, the Director of Electoral Services at the Electoral Commission (EC), has urged the public not to condemn the Commission over the alleged bribery that took place at the Ejisu by-election until the content of the envelope is established.

The Commission has already withdrawn two of its temporary staff over the said video where the Member of Parliament for Kwadaso, Kingsley Osei Nyarko, was captured handing over an envelope from his pocket to two temporary staff of the EC.

The EC says it has launched investigations into the act following the withdrawal of the two staff, according to a statement it issued after the incident. The Electoral Commission, after dismissing the two temporary staff, noted that investigations are ongoing to ascertain the full facts of the incident.

Meanwhile, Dr. Quaicoe, has said in an interview that the conclusion of the investigation will determine the EC’s next line of action as the content of the envelope is yet to be determined.

“For now, we shouldn’t crucify them till we do the investigation and get to the root of it because clearly if you watched (the video), the parcel was being given to them and the people were not ready to take it.

“So it was dropped on the table but when it was dropped, who took it? We don’t know,” he told JoyNews.

Meanwhile, the Commission has declared in its statement that it will uphold its core principles of integrity, truth, and transparency, hence the decision to withdraw the officers.

“The Electoral Commission has taken immediate steps and has withdrawn the two (2) temporary staff while investigations take place.

“The commission upholds the principles and values of integrity, truth and transparency. These values are reinforced during the training of all temporary staff.
