The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has declared its intentions to invoke the authority of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and the Privileges Committee of Parliament to probe the alleged bribery given by an NPP MP in Ejisu.

A viral video captured at one of the polling stations in Ejisu depicts the Member of Parliament for Kwadaso, Kingsley Osei Nyarko, handing over an envelope from his pocket to two temporary staff of the EC.

The EC says it has launched investigations into the act following the withdrawal of the two staff.

The Electoral Commission, after dismissing the two temporary staff, noted in a statement that investigations are ongoing to ascertain the full facts of the incident.

“The Electoral Commission has taken immediate steps and has withdrawn the two (2) temporary staff while investigations take place.

“The Commission upholds the principles and values of integrity, truth and transparency. These values are reinforced during the training of all temporary staff. The Commission will not countenance acts which cast a slur on the integrity of the institution and will not hesitate to sanction its officials who violate its laws.

“The report on the incident will be made available to the public in due course,” the statement issued by Deputy Chairman of the Commission in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey, noted.

In a statement issued by the Ashanti regional Secretary of the NDC, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, he indicated that the party “demand transparency and accountability from the EC.”

The NDC has also expressed its intentions to thoroughly investigate the matter through the House of Parliament and the OSP.

“We are committed to pursuing this matter rigorously through appropriate channels, including engagement with the Special Prosecutor and the Privileges Committee of the Parliament of Ghana.

“The EC led by Madam Jean Mensah must do more to redeem their credibility as their unprofessional conduct does not inspires confidence in the lead up to the 2024 general elections.

“The NDC remains steadfast in our commitment to upholding the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring that all citizens can exercise their democratic rights without fear or favor.

“We urge the EC to uphold its mandate with impartiality and transparency, and we will not hesitate to hold them accountable for any breaches of trust or misconduct,” portions of the statement contained.
