The Minister for Tourism. Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to promoting domestic tourism as a key driver of economic growth, assuring that her Ministry will continue to implement measures aimed at boosting the sector.
Speaking at a press briefing during the Public Accounts Committee public hearing at Ada, the Minister encouraged Ghanaians to travel more within the country, stressing that increased domestic tourism would help stimulate local businesses and strengthen the economy.
She also appealed to the business community to invest in the tourism industry, noting that although the sector is public sector-led and private sector-driven, government remains committed to creating an enabling environment for investors through supportive policies and legislation.
The Minister acknowledged concerns about the poor state of road infrastructure leading to tourist destinations and assured that the issue would be addressed to improve access to tourism sites across the country.
On concerns over high fees and charges within the hospitality industry, Gomashie explained that taxes, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) charges, and tariffs significantly influence pricing in the sector.
