A 30-year-old tricycle –commonly known as ‘pragya‘ –operator, identified as Samuel Otu, has been lynched and his tricycle set ablaze at Sawer, a suburb of Somanya in the Eastern region.
The incident, which has left the local community in shock, occurred in the early hours of Saturday, May 3, 2025.
According to residents, the victim who hailed from Okperpiem, another suburb of Somanya, is suspected to have been attacked and stripped naked by unknown assailants around 2:30am.
Police say a distress call was made to the Somanya Police Station at approximately 2:45am.
Responding officers moved to the scene and found Otu’s lifeless body lying in a supine position near a gutter at Dorhetso, with his tricycle registration number M-23-GR 7942) burning beside him.
Police sources revealed that traces of blood at the scene led investigators to a nearby house, where the victim’s clothes were discovered. “According to the intel we received, he was beaten in front of that house,” an officer noted.
Despite the proximity of the incident, residents in the area claimed they neither witnessed the attack nor heard any cries for help during the night.
The body was transported to the Yilo Krobo District Hospital, and confirmed dead by a a physician assistant. The body has since been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
As of now, no arrests have been made, though police investigations are ongoing.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that the attack may have followed accusations of theft involving the deceased and some passengers he was allegedly transporting.
Police authorities are urging the public to assist with credible information to apprehend the culprits.
