In the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality of the Western Region, the annual “My First Day at School” initiative took on a deeply personal hue as Member of Parliament (MP) Lawyer Fiifi Buckman shared his own educational journey with over 700 pupils across seven schools.
Accompanied by Municipal Director of Education Gloria Binney Gonetow, Lawyer Buckman’s visit underscored the significance of early education and the role of mentorship in shaping young minds.
Amidst the jubilant chorus of “School is exciting, it will guide and shape us to become people of prominence in society,” Lawyer Buckman recounted his own experiences overcoming educational challenges. “It was a journey of determination, of grit, and the knowledge that if I took my lessons seriously, I could become all I aspired to be. And here I am today, a renowned lawyer and your MP ready to serve you,” he shared with the eager pupils. This narrative not only resonated with the students but also highlighted the transformative power of education.

Lawyer Buckman’s commitment to fostering a love for learning was evident as he engaged with the students through various activities. The day included games, sing-alongs, pep talks, and basic exercises, creating an interactive environment that emphasized the importance of education.
“At this stage, children are still experimenting and discovering. It’s crucial to offer guidance, share exemplary life experiences, and tell stories that will spark their curiosity and desire to learn,” he explained.
To make the day memorable, he distributed educational materials such as books, pencils, erasers, and sharpeners, along with drinks and snacks. These symbolic gestures were not just about providing resources but also about instilling a sense of value and importance in education.
