The Electoral Commission (EC) has terminated its ballot printing contract with Yasarko Printing Press Limited.
The company was contracted by the EC to print the ballots for the Oti and Western North regions in the upcoming December 2024 general elections.
But after showing lack of capacity to continue with what the EC says it has been doing since 1998, the contracts have been terminated and given to Buck Press Limited and Acts Commercials Limited, who will handle printing for the Oti and Western North regions, respectively.
The announcement is contained in a statement dated Friday, October 25, 2024, and signed by Deputy Chairperson of the Commission in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey.
The announcement follows concerns raised by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) expressing its misgivings over transparency in the contract that was awarded the company.
According to the NDC, Yasarko Printing Press Limited lacked the capacity to carry out the contract, alleging that the its competence deficiencies, coupled with its impartiality could undermine the integrity of the elections.

But the EC said those allegations were unfounded, clarifying that it terminated the contract with Yasarko as a result of a challenge it has encountered with one of its major machines needed for the exercise.
