Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, Paramount chief of the Bawku Traditional Area, has called on the two main contenders for the presidency this year, to foster unity amongst themselves.

He says as two sons from the north, it is worthy to take a cue from how the indigenes of the south see them and refer to them as ‘Ntafoɔ‘ (twins) due to the unity they exhibit irrespective of the part of the north they hail from.

According to the Naba, although they are from different political parties, they should know that no matter what happens, a son of the north will ascend the presidency this year, something that has never happened in the history of this country.

He says despite Dr. Hilla Liman and John Dramani Mahama becoming Presidents from the north, this is the first time the two main contenders for the office are coming from the north.

During a courtesy call on him by the Vice President and flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party Saturday, July 27, 2024, as part of his campaign tour, the Paramount Chief of the Bawku Traditional Area told Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, that, nothing should separate him from his brother, John Dramani Mahama since they are supposed to be one people.

“The truth is that, even in the south, they call us Ntafoɔ. They say we are one regardless of where you are coming from or the tribe. Once you are coming from the northern area, they say we are one, so, what separates us? We are supposed to be one,” he advised.

“You are interested and at the same time, NDC flag bearer (John Dramani Mahama) is also interested. But at the end of the day, one of you will win and become President.

“For the first time, we are having two people coming from this area and definitely, one of you will become President. First it was Liman and then Mahama and now you have also come,” he added, indicating his resolve to back him with prayers for his dream to become a reality.

“As you are seated today, it means you qualify to occupy the seat now. By the grace of the Almighty Allah, you’ll win the election,” he prayed.

Meanwhile, the Bawku Naba called on the Vice President to give the Kusal area a region if he is sworn in as President.

“If you look at Kusal, it is big –six administrative districts and six constituencies. It is my wish that we get a region, and so, I want to inform you, when you are sworn as President of the Republic of this country, please remember to give Kusal a region,” the chief pleaded.
