The just elected flag bearer of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Nana Frimpomaa Sarpong Kumankumah, has said she is not perturbed by her opponent’s refusal to congratulate her on winning the party’s presidential primary.

Dr. Yaw Anokye Frimpong, a lawyer and historian who contested the poll with the National Chairperson of the CPP Wednesday, September 04, 2024, has said he was robbed in the poll and has refused to accept the results.

In an exclusive interview with TV3’s Joseph Amstrong Gold-Alogbey after the polls, Dr. Anokye Frimpong said that the election was rigged by the Electoral Commission, for which reason he cannot congratulate the winner.

The historian added that he will not recognise Madam Kumankumah as the party’s flag bearer considering the level of rigging that took place in the course of the election.

According to him, if one contests an election “and you lose fairly, it’s so easy to congratulate the winner. If you are robbed by the referee, how can you congratulate the winner?”

But reacting to the development same day on TV3’s Ghana Tonight with Alfred Ocansey, Nana Frimpomaa noted that her victory is ” a day for the CPP, a day for celebration for the youth of this country, a day for the vulnerable and a day for the marginalised. I don’t think it’s a day to worry about people who don’t know how to accept defeat and move on.”

She said Dr. Anokye Frimpong’s failure to congratulate her is not a big deal since there are people who cannot accept defeat and move on.

According to her, her contender’s comments suggest he has an alternative, something Nana Frimpomaa says existed for him before joining the race.

“But it’s nothing. This is something that happens to some people. It is not everybody in life who can accept the fact that they’ve been defeated, especially by a woman and they have to move on. From the things that I just heard him say right now, it looks like he is looking at an alternative, he has an alternative before he joined the race, so what would be new? My victory is a victory for the masses of the party,” she maintained.
