Historian, Yaw Anokye Frimpong, has revealed that Ghana’s former President, William Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, does not relate to the late Dr. Joseph Boakye (J.B.) Danquah.
His comment comes on the back of Akufo-Addo’s usual referral to J.B. Danquah as his uncle, which the historian says the duo are not related by blood.
He revealed that J.B. Danquah is a native of Adadientam, one of the towns in the Akyem Abuakwa enclave, and was born at Kwahu Bepong in the Eastern region.
According to him, J.B. Danquah’s father, Yaw Boakye, was a drummer at Amoako Atta’s family who got married to his mother, Frimpomaa, as his second wife.
Speaking with Captain Smart on Onua TV’s morning show, Maakye, Monday, March 10, 2025, as part of the Ghana Month series, the historian who is also a private legal practitioner, revealed further the first wife of Yaw Boakye, J.B.Danquah’s father, was a descendant from the royal family who birthed Ofori-Atta I, who became a chief.
Yaw Boakye’s younger wife, according to the Historian, is the mother of J.B. Danquah. He explained that, Akufo-Addo, who hails from the royal family, also has his roots from Abomosu, but has no relationship with the stool.
Again, lawyer Anokye Frimpong disclosed that the Okyenhene gave J.B. Danquah an honourary title like —Nkɔsoɔhene (development chief) of Akyem Abuakwa– when he became idle after his political career.
He asserted that Akufo-Addo’s frequent referral to J.B. Danquah as his uncle is therefore erroneous, considering the fact that they are not related.
