Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central Isaac Adongo has underscored the need to vote out the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming December elections.

That is the only means, according to the lawmaker, Ghana’s democracy will be secured.

He says the backwardness the ruling administration has brought upon the nation is a testament to the NPP’s poor performance which should see them in opposition after the next election.

Speaking at the campaign launch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Tamale Central Sunday, September 29, 2024, Mr. Adongo noted that if the NPP is retained in power, it will collapse the nation’s democracy.

He indicated that retaining the NPP would mean no administration can ever be voted out of power for governing poorly in this country.

“We have had 30 years of the Fourth Republic. If you look at what is happening in our country, this election is to save Ghana’s democracy. If NPP wins, it means that no government can do anything wrong to be voted out of power,” he stated.

The Ranking Member on the Finance Committee of Parliament listed some of the nuisance taxes the NPP government has introduced, making the living conditions of Ghanaians unbearable.

“Can you buy fuel today? Can you exchange the currency to do your business? Are you not paying bet tax? Are you not paying e-levy? Are you not paying Covid [levy] even though Covid is gone?” he quizzed.

He assured the gathering that an NDC government led by John Dramani Mahama will scrap all the nuisance taxes to alleviate the plight of Ghanaians.

He also urged them to vote for Murtala Mohammed, the NDC parliamentary candidate for Tamale Central as they vote for John Mahama for the presidency. That, he noted, is the only way Mahama can have a majority in Parliament to serve Ghanaians adequately.
