Isaac Adongo, the Bolgatanga Central Member of Parliament, has advised Ghanaians against voting ‘skirt and blouse’ in the upcoming elections.
He says voting for John Mahama without parliamentary candidates of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will make governing difficult for him if he wins the presidential election.
Adongo was speaking to constituents of Tamale Central at the launch of the NDC parliamentary candidate’s campaign Sunday, September 29, 2024, when he made the comments.
He likened ‘skirt and blouse’ voting to tying the hands of the President at his back and putting him in the boxing ring to fight.
The legislator stated that the likes of himself, Alhassan Suhuyini, Clement Apaak and a couple of lawmakers from the northern part of the country were all mentored by the former Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, including Murtala Mohammed, who is contesting in Tamale Central.
He therefore urged that they extend their love for Haruna Iddrisu to Murtala and vote for him and John Mahama in December to ensure the government gets the required majority in Parliament to govern.
“If you like Haruna Iddrisu, then you cannot send Hon. Haruna Iddrisu to Parliament without his able lieutenant, Hon Murtala to come and serve him. If you vote for the NPP [PC] and you decide that you love John Mahama, what you have done is that you’ve tied the hands of John Mahama in the back and you’ve sent him to the ring to go and fight. They will beat him and he will come back. So if you like John Mahama, then send Murtala to go and assist him to run the Ghana that we want,” he urged.
Citing the high cost of living amid the introduction of numerous nuisance taxes, Isaac Adongo said retaining the NPP would mean no administration can ever be voted out of power for governing poorly in this country.
“We have had 30 years of the Fourth Republic. If you look at what is happening in our country, this election is to save Ghana’s democracy. If NPP wins, it means that no government can do anything wrong to be voted out of power,” he stated.
