The Suntaa Youth Group, a prominent NDC youth wing in Wa Central Constituency of the Upper West Region, has withdrawn support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s Parliamentary Candidate, Dr Hassan Rashid Pelpuo.
Citing consistent unfulfilled promises, the group said it now backs the NPP Parliamentary Candidate, Hajia Humu Awudu, and will be voting “skirt and blouse”.
With barely two weeks to the December election, the youth group numbering over 20 said, “We have long championed progress, equity, and empowerment, but our candidate’s [Rashid Pelpuo] failures left us no choice”.
Speaking at a press conference organised by the group on Thursday, November 21, 2024, in Wa, the group stated: “We the Suntaa Youth Group of the NDC in Wa Central Constituency, have today announced our decision to withdraw our support for the incumbent MP, Dr Rashid Pelpuo, and instead endorse Hajia Humu Awudu of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for Parliament.”
The spokesperson of the group, Aliyyu Harazimi, said their decision is arrived at due to the over 20 years of unfulfilled promises, underperformance, and lack of tangible results in the constituency.
“For the past 20 years, the Constituents of Wa Central have been represented by Hon. Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, but his tenure has been marked by disappointment and stagnation. Despite the electorate’s hopes for meaningful change, Hon. People’s leadership has failed to bring the necessary development to the Constituency, leaving issues such as inadequate infrastructure, high unemployment, and lack of opportunities unresolved,” he strongly stated.
Adding that the Suntaa Youth Group, as an NDC youth wing, has long supported the ideals of progress, equity, and empowerment.
The group further revealed that “in addition to supporting Hajia Humu Awudu, Suntaa Youth Group also “pledges its continued support for John Mahama, whose leadership we believe will bring prosperity and advancement to Ghana”.
They described the NPP Wa Central Parliamentary Candidate, Hajia Humu Awudu as a leader of action and tireless advocate for the people of Wa Central.
“Over the years, she has made significant strides in transforming the community, particularly in the areas of youth empowerment, education, and job creation. She has supported numerous students in securing scholarships to study abroad, offering them opportunities to improve their lives and contribute to national progress”, the group stated.
They called on all like-minded individuals in the constituency who share their frustration to join the train by voting for Hajia Humu of the NPP.
