The governing New Patriotic Party has reiterated its call for the flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, to debate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The party says it is through a debate that the opposition can expose the flag bearer of the NPP.
Leader of the Majority in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, speaking at the launch of the party’s Manifesto at the Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) in Takoradi Sunday, August 18, 2024, noted that if the NDC runs away from a debate, it means they are the ones that should be tagged liars and inconsistent.
“If indeed they believe that Dr. Bawumia is not consistent with his vision, they should stand up for a debate. It is only through a debate that they can expose Dr. Bawumia. If they run away from a debate, then they are the liars and inconsistent people in the country,” he stated.
He also denied allegations of the running mate to Dr. Bawumia, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, being arrogant.
According to him, same tags were put on then candidate Akufo-Addo which did not suffice and affirmed his belief that same will not work on Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh also known as NAPO.
He highlighted his contribution towards the rollout of the Free SHS programme when he was Education Minister, adding that he is ready to support Bawumia to transform Ghana’s economy with his arrogance.
“Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh was there at the Education Ministry. He led the rollout of the Free SHS. Somebody who was a Professor was there and said that the Free SHS was not possible.
“Today she says she is Literature Professor. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh is ready to debate this Literature Professor. She should not run away.
“Even if you tag him as arrogant, we know you’ve done it to Akufo-Addo it didn’t work. He is ready to transform Ghana with his arrogance as running mate to the flag bearer to become Vice President,” he indicated..
Thousands of supporters of the governing NPP have gathered at the GSTS today for the launch of the party’s manifesto ahead of the 2024 elections.
The event followed the party’s mammoth health walk in the Western Regional capital of Sekondi-Takoradi yesterday, Saturday, August 17.
In a statement signed by the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Kodua Frimpong Monday, August 05, 2024, an eleven-member committee was set up to plan for the execution of the event with Oboshie Sai-Coffie as Chair and Abena Asante serving as Secretary.
