The Energy Minister, Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, will address the nation today, Monday, April 27, 2026, on developments in electricity distribution in the country.
This comes on the back of recent developments at the sector, including the ongoing power outages across the country, which has been worsened by a fire outbreak at the Akosombo Power Control Centre, as well as a leadership shake-up within the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Ashanti region.
At the briefing, the Minister will address questions about the fire incident at Akosombo and provide clarification on the steps being taken to address the ongoing issues in the power sector.
His statement is expected to provide more details on the government’s response to the fire-related disruptions and shed light on leadership changes within the energy distribution framework.
This was contained in a post made by the Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, on his Facebook page on Sunday, April 26, 2026.
It is also expected that the Minister addresses the matter relating to the CEO of the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) whom he asked to step aside pending investigations into the fire at the Akosombo Power Control Centre.
Also, the Ministry has announced that there have been leadership changes at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Ashanti Region which which the Minister would be expected to speak on.
The shake-up follows concerns about the region’s inability to manage electricity distribution effectively in the wake of the Akosombo fire and ongoing challenges within the energy sector.
