The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, in collaboration with key stakeholders, has initiated plans to revamp the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company (GCMC) to enhance its production capacity and overall efficiency.
This was discussed at a high-level meeting on March 12, chaired by the Minister for Energy and Green Transiti on, John Abdulai Jinapor.
Participants included representatives from the Ghana National Gas Company (Ghana Gas) and the GCB Bank (Ghana Commercial Bank).
The focus was on establishing a strategic partnership to provide the necessary support for GCMC’s full-scale operations.
Mr Jinapor highlighted the significant potential of GCMC to contribute to the local manufacturing industry and the government’s clean energy agenda.
He emphasised the need to rejuvenate the company “and position it as a key player in the production of high-quality LPG cylinders for both domestic and industrial use.”
To facilitate this transformation, the Minister announced the formation of a committee to develop a comprehensive roadmap for cabinet consideration.
“If approved, a Joint Project Implementation Committee—comprising representatives from the Ministry of Energy, Ghana Gas, GCMC, and the Ministry of Finance—will oversee the successful execution of the revitalisation plan,” he said.
The meeting was attended by key stakeholders, including Mr Abdul-Rahman Mankir, Acting Managing Director of GCMC; Madam Judith Blay, Acting CEO of Ghana Gas; Dr Robert Lartey, Deputy CEO of Ghana Gas; Alhaj Farihan Alhassan, Managing Director of GCB Bank; and officials from the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition.
