Residents of Akuse in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region have appealed to the government and their Member of Parliament, Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, to urgently address the poor state of roads in the area.

According to the residents, the deteriorating road network is negatively affecting farming activities and the local economy.

The residents in the area explained that, farmers are losing income because many transport operators refuse to come to Akuse, Asutuare, and Osuwem to transport produce due to the poor condition of the roads.

They are therefore making a peaceful appeal to Mr Okletey Terlabi to intervene and ensure the completion of these roads.

Akuse, a major farming and fishing community with a population of over 10,000 people, is known for producing large quantities of agricultural and fish products. Residents say they had high expectations that their MP, who also doubles as the Deputy Minister for Interior under the NDC government, would help address the developmental challenges facing the Manya Krobo area.

The residents expressed disappointment over what they describe as years of neglect, despite their strong political support for both the MP and the ruling party.

The Residents again described the condition of the Akuse roads as pathetic and disheartening. They argued that one of their major concerns is the lack of visible efforts to lobby for key development projects in Akuse and surrounding communities.

They pointed out that, they expected their MP to consistently push for better roads, jobs, schools, drainage systems, and improved healthcare facilities, lamenting that, unfortunately, Akuse has not received the level of representation and development attention it deserves.

Residents say the poor road network continues to hinder economic activities, particularly agriculture, which remains the backbone of the local economy.

Despite being one of the strongest support bases for Mr Okletey Terlabi and the NDC, residents claim the community continues to struggle with poor infrastructure and limited development.

They further stressed that a town that has contributed significantly to the political success of both the MP and the NDC deserves greater attention, commitment, and visible development projects.
