Daniel Yaw Domelevo, the former Auditor-General, has revealed that one of the major challenges he faced during his tenure of office was friends and people from government who tried to influence him.
He says some old classmates, government officials, chiefs and others could come to his office at the time and tell him of their interests in certain audits he was doing, demanding of him to tone down on some facts in such cases.
However, Mr. Domelevo said the audits at his disposal come from the various departments and agencies, adding that the most difficult part of it was when the pressure was coming from the government.
“Sometimes you will be there and someone will come and say “I’m your classmate from K. Poly and others” and as for this audit, I have an interest in it,” he told host of Onua Maakye, Captain Smart, Monday, April 1, 2024.
“Yes, people come and beg all the time including chiefs. But the most difficult part is when the pressure comes from the government,” he said in affirmation to if people were coming to him to beg.
Daniel Yaw Domelevo is an accountant who currently serves as a Board member of the Global Fund. He is a former Auditor-General of Ghana. He was appointed by John Dramani Mahama in 2016 to replace Richard Quartei Quartey who had retired from public service.
But President Akufo-Addo ousted him from office citing some reasons which the Supreme Court later found unfounded.
