Nana Ohene Ntow, the special advisor to Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, has established that the fight against illegal mining also known as ‘galamsey’ cannot be won until certain things are taken care of.
He says until jobs are created to cater for the teeming unemployed youth, there is no way the fight against galamsey will materialise.
Ohene Ntow says many young ones are involved in the illegal mining business because they have no economic activity to cater for themselves.
Speaking on the KeyPoints on TV3 Saturday, September 07, 2024, he said “for as long as our economy is not able to provide jobs for our young people, our economy is not supporting businesses to employ more people, for as long as our exchange and interest rates are destroying businesses, it is going to be very difficult to fight not just galamsey but all the ills that are plaguing our society now.”
He said that the solution to the challenges is getting a leader with a clear plan rather than proffering slogans which do not provide any roadmap to address the challenge.
“So, if we are serious about finding a solution to galamsey, I am saying that you need a leader who has a very clear plan, not a slogan, he stated.
He explained that what is needed is Alan Kyerematen’s Great Transformational Plan (GTP) to address all the problems he enumerated.
